Brooks Museum Senior Portrait Session

Change doesn't always come easy.

Generally my personality resists change, but in the last year I can see how change -- and having to try new things -- has grown my inner artist. Exactly one year ago today, I had closed on selling a home in Texas, closed on buying a home in Tennessee, and found out I was pregnant. Whew! That makes for a lot of change, real fast! We moved a few weeks later, and I needed to switch over everything for my business. A break from shooting weddings gave me plenty of time to shoot families, seniors, babies (all of which I LOVE, by the way, and still plan to do even as I step back in to wedding photography). Still, a lot of it felt new. New friends. New locations. New ideas. New dreams. New inspiration. As my inner artist found her new home as wedding and portrait photographer in Memphis, Tennessee, I enthusiastically jumped at my first chance to shoot a senior session at the Brooks Museum! This sneak peek shows what it looks like when I try new things - new venue, new friend, new compositional ambitions, three different outfits, etc!

I had a blast, and my favorite part? Well, it's hard to decide... so I'll choose two! For one, the delight of having his parents and sister along for the adventure! Jauna, Calvin, Carrie - I enjoyed having y'all along and hearing all the delight as y'all observed Caleb's session. What a blast! And for another favorite, I've got to say it was when Caleb cut loose for a stream of dancing shots at Overton Park Shell. So much fun, right?

So, Caleb,

I wish you the best. This week, you are graduating from high school - such an exiting time of newness and change! I'm glad that I got to be the one to take your senior portraits! You have a stellar smile, and it was a joy to work with you! As you go on to do great things at University of Kentucky, play rugby and sing in the Men's Chorus, may all the newness mingle with previously instilled values to make you bold and wise as you move off to try new things!
